M. Alejandro Chaoul obtained his Ph.D. at Rice University and has also completed the seven-year program at the Ligmincha Institute for the study of the Bön-Buddhist tradition of Tibet.

Ale, his friendly name, was authorized to teach meditation and Trul Khor (Magical Movement) Tibetan Yoga by Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche in 1995. He has also studied with Lopon Tenzin Namdak and Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche, among others, and is a senior student and instructor at Ligmincha Institute, teaching nationally and internationally in both English and Spanish.

He is currently an assistant professor at the John P. McGovern, M.D., Center for Health, Humanities, and the Human Spirit at the University of Texas Medical School in Houston, and the mind-body intervention specialist at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, where he teaches Tibetan meditation techniques to cancer patients and their families and caregivers. Together with Lorenzo Cohen, Ph.D., he is currently conducting clinical research of the effects of the Tibetan Bön yoga practices of tsa lung on women with breast cancer. The study is sponsored by a $2.4 million grant from the National Cancer Institute.
