what to expect -- logistics

  • Meet every Sunday from 3-8 p.m. and includes one Power & Flow Yoga Class at 4:30 p.m. Except for the Sunday 4:30 p.m. class, additional or outside classes are not included in the tuition and is not included in the 40 hour contact hours to be registered with Yoga Alliance. Though you will receive a discount in unlimited monthly yoga, you are expected to continue paying for classes as you work through your training at $120 per month. You are also expected to practice daily.

  • Do not miss any teacher training classes. Under very special circumstances and preapproved by Jennifer, make-up course work may be prescribed before your expected absence. Make-up work includes reading material and a reflection paper to be typed and handed in or emailed (preferably) to jennifer@jennyoga.com.

  • Attend at least 10 Wednesday night Warrior Intensive Yoga classes - 90 minutes each - by the end of the training.

  • Internship will be prescribed toward the last few months of the training and will be 15 hours either teaching and/or assisting.

  • Read material will be assigned weekly by chapters and expected to be completed before coming to the next class. Classes are broken up into 36 lessons from various books, lectures and handouts. Hand outs and articles are also part of the reading material that will be assigned at various times during the course.

  • There may be a book report project that will require you to choose one inspiring book that can be somehow tied to yoga. Yoga is about unification, growth and expansion. You should have no problem choosing something that helps you feel yoga. Please get your choice preapproved by Jennifer before you begin the book report.

  • This program is subject to change occasionally according to outside facilitator’s availability to contribute to coursework. We do NOT always follow the syllabus. You must learn to be flexible.

  • Homework assignments are due at the next class meeting. Research is involved so please make sure you have access to a computer and printer.

  • Bring an open mind and flexible attitude. Our discussions sometimes end up deeply engaged and may contain controversial subject matter. Remember, in the end, we are festering love, compassion and acceptance.

  • Be prepared to write your own ethics. See Jen’s example in the manual.

  • Begin thinking of your personal symbol. What represents you symbolically? Find what moves you when you see certain images, animals or shapes. We will make a manifestation "Who am I" board to cultivate archetypes and deeper work in the psyche.

  • Purchase a neti pot.

  • Begin thinking about your passions. Keep a journal and bring it with you to class each week. We will be sharing our experiences. Of course you will be the only person looking at your journal and you can share only that which you feel comfortable in sharing. We promise and honor each other and vow that what happens stays within our group. We will become very connected over the next few months and this training is to be an opportunity for you to grow, share, learn and inevitably open the anahata, or heart chakra.
